Widmer Wohnen: The Soul of the Forest

Parquet flooring by Widmer Wohnen enchants with natural wood beauty.

Wood – one of the building materials used to create comfort and atmosphere in a home. Grown naturally in a wide variety of colours, shapes and structures, it is wonderfully suited for further processing into unique furniture, wall panels, floor coverings and even sculptural decoration elements – provided you have the necessary knowledge and creativity. Dany Widmer from Widmer Wohnen has this skill and a creative talent with which he constantly uses to develop surprising new interpretations. Now, his experiments with wood have created a new product that creates a special atmosphere in every home: Parquet collection by Widmer Wohnen.

The natural colour tones gently appeal to the eyes of the beholder. The palette is endless, from deep black bronze to silvery, dazzling rust red. Be it the strong contrasts between ochre and soot or smoky iridescent umber, the feeling is always warm and pleasant. Dany Widmer can see and reveal this hidden beauty of wood by transforming it into works of art for extraordinary spaces. He worked passionately on his idea for a unique parquet collection. He worked hard and persevered until he was able to implement his numerous ideas of different surface appearances in such a way as to meet his quality standards. The surfaces are processed very differently, specially treated with a great deal of imagination, for example, to look like old wood or to achieve a 'used' appearance. Nineteen types of unparalleled uniqueness have been created, which will be shown exclusively in the new showroom of Widmer Wohnen in Zurich. The aim is to offer Widmer Wohnen's customers impressively beautiful wooden floors with an individual touch. STIA Schweiz AG was won over as a partner for perfect implementation, guaranteeing that the specifications are met exactly and that the high demands are met. Between seven and fifteen work steps are necessary to produce the surfaces according to the specifications. Oak is always used for the base, as it offers the best conditions for refinement. The wood should be experienced again naturally: There is nothing more wonderful than feeling the material barefooted.

Trees with a gnarled character, grown over time as nature created them in the forest. They are the core of Widmer Wohnen's parquet collection and the very opposite to the current sterile trend. The idea is to express the liveliness of the material, showing its natural grain, knotholes and signs of the usage which strengthen the natural beauty. Four of the altogether nineteen variants make up a special collection, as the individual boards are available in extra-wide of more than forty centimetres and in extra-long of up to fifteen metres. It is a real challenge to obtain the appropriate raw material for this purpose because such large trees with a strong character are not available in the timber trade. You have to rely on the forest ranger's knowledge.
