White House: Trend Statement Cooking

Thomas von Rohr: innovative technology for a new freedom in cooking

Modern living concepts are setting the bar with cooking, eating and living combined in one communicative and open living space. The idea that the kitchen is purely a working space has long been passé. The process of cooking is celebrated as a creative process as much as the eating itself.

But just as you can't make an omelette without breaking eggs, you can't cook without creating vapours and odours. Opponents of open kitchens usually raise precisely this argument. Standard extractors, which are usually installed at head height don't always manage to extract the emissions from the various pots and pans. Furthermore, the noise created by an ex-tractor or recirculation hood running on its top setting inhibits interaction. That gave us the idea to design something completely new: a high-efficiency air cleaning system that is almost invisible and extremely quiet. With our 25 years of experience and support from the Leibniz Institute for Plasma Science and Technology, we are the first manufacturer to have brought a world first to market: a full-surface induction cooktop with integrated down-draft ventilation. The complex technology isn't obvious at first glance. The glass ceramic hob follows the principles of contemporary architecture with its clear design. Only once the system, which is easy to operate via touch panels, is turned on does the extraction hood lower from its hiding place and operate almost silently at a height that is perfectly adjusted to the pots and pans being used. The system incorporates our patented domaPlasma technology, which splits or oxidises odours, oil and cooking fumes in three phases so that they turn into pure air, carbon dioxide and water vapour. At the same viruses, germs and microorganisms are destroyed. Freedom from vapours and ventilation hoods makes cooking so much more enjoy-able. Furthermore, the intelligent system recognises the size of the pots and regulates each pot steplessly. The most commonly used temperature settings are pre-programmed: 42 degrees to keep food warm, 70 degrees for braising and 94 degrees just below boiling point for boiling or searing. The new technology meets Minergie standards and can be installed any-where without additional ducts. All that is needed is a suitable cutout as with other cooktops. Except for the occasional cleaning of the metal filter, the unit is maintenance-free meaning you can breathe easy when it comes to caring for the unit and concentrate fully on the cooking experience, which I hope you enjoy.
