Nymphenburg Palace is a magical place. The former summer residence of the Bavarian kings is impressive with its monumental yet muted construction in baroque and rococo style. Located in the state capital of Munich, this three-winged complex houses the palatial rooms as well as the world-famous Royal Nymphenburg Porcelain Manufactory. This historic ensemble made up of buildings, parks and waterways also includes the former cavaliers’ house, which was redesigned by the Nymphenburg Porcelain Manufactory into an exclusive residence and is now operated in partnership with the Langham Hospitality Group.
The Langham Hotels & Resorts are known for their focus on classical buildings, giving their guests a unique overnight experience. This is particularly true of the residence at Nymphenburg Palace. I’m welcomed into a realm of exclusivity in which I immediately feel at home. My stay becomes a journey through different ambiences and styles, materials and colours, because each room has its specific character and furnishings, and yet the overall impression is harmonious, just like a multifaceted artwork. The masterful products of the Nymphenburg Porcelain Manufactory form a common thread running through the entire residence, whether it is figurines or tableware, washbasins or lighting, without the whole place feeling like a showroom. It remains a temporary home where you can live and work, celebrate and relax. The ground floor is a spacious area to enjoy time with family, friends and guests. A ladies room and a men’s salon offer space to spend time together; in the dining room you can enjoy culinary arts and the children can go on a voyage of discovery in their own circus world. The first floor has been converted into a haven for private moments. In the Master Suite and Castle Suite, you can enjoy a unique view of the palace from your bed, the blue room offers additional space for beautiful dreams and the living room is a cosy communal area. The space under the roof is where work and leisure have been given the big bonus of a professional office and conference room, a cinema lounge and a spacious gym and spa area. All requirements are united under one roof.
The Langham Hospitality Group and the Porzellan Manufaktur Nymphenburg are offering guests from all over the world the most exclusive accomodation in the city of Munich at the private residence on the Nymphenburg Palace grounds.
Interior designers Mang Mauritz took on the project to furnish the building in this prestigious location. With their flair for effects and atmosphere, they developed a furnishing concept that combines classical refinement with a contemporary touch. Custom-made pieces of furniture and handcrafted accessories from numerous luxury brands and ateliers create a melange of royal sophistication, whether it’s the handmade-to-order beds from Vispring, the captivating textiles from Jim Thompson or the contemporary carpets of Jan Kath. Lichtkonzept Zürich was responsible for the lighting system and products from companies such as Sennheiser, Samsung and Sonos provide the high-quality technical equipment. A joy for connoisseurs.
The charming Ladies Room is a magical symphony of romantic features and modern counterpoints in a light colour scheme. The interior design is a delicate composition in which the magnolia flowers on the Cole & Son wallpaper add a feminine touch alongside the curved seating of Donghia Furniture by Rubelli. Dainty vintage birdcages are home to delicate porcelain birds from the Nymphenburg Collection and give the room its lightness of touch. And the luxurious Fox daybed by Meridiani can be converted into a double bed for guests. The Ladies Room is just one example of the sophistication of Langham’s Nymphenburg Residence. Each room has its own character that emphasises its purpose, creating many favourite places in the process.
The seven bathrooms in the Residence are very unique rooms – each has its own motto that determines the design with Nymphenburg porcelain. For example, the 'dancing fish' bathroom in the Castle Suite has hand-painted bisque porcelain tiles on which red and blue fish swim across the entire wall. The 'Royal Bavaria' bathroom in the Master Suite is inspired by the classic ornamental painting of the Bavarian royal service, with touches of 25-karat gold. On the ground floor, the 'Butterflies' bathroom has an enchanting series of 365 hand-painted butterflies. All bathrooms are furnished with high-quality designer fittings from the premium manufacturer Dornbracht, which underline the respective architectural personality with their beauty and functionality. They make guests feel pampered with moments filled with comfort and luxury.

Langham and Nymphenburg offer many more amenities to make your stay unforgettable. For example, you can walk from the kitchen, with its luxury Gaggenau appliances, onto the walled Majolica terrace with a watercourse, surrounded by trees and a small gate leading to the Schlossrondell. The Master Suite also has its own fireplace and a sauna. A service team made up of a concierge, chauffeur, housekeeping, butler and kitchen team are available for guests. This elegant house can be used for many different purposes. Families will find comfortable accommodation here, including for a longer stays. Companies can rent the rooms for stylish events – as long as they share the values of Nymphenburg. I, for one, enjoyed my time in this place.
Nymphenburg Porcelain Manufactory As the manufactory doesn’t offer any public guided tours, I’m even more delighted to have the chance to learn about its work and find out how elaborately and carefully this porcelain is made. Everything is still crafted by hand and the raw material has to be fermented for two years. Partnerships with renowned artists result in the creation of products in a wide variety of forms, from chic to avantgarde. The complicated handcrafted procedure justifies the high prices of these treasures, which are highly sought-after by collectors and interior designers.
