My hand caresses the Lamborghini’s carbon 'skin' – electrified, I gently touch the red cover of the starter button – breathless with anticipation. It’ll happen soon – very soon. I feel the adrenaline rising in me as my heart pounds. I push up the cover... Take a deep breath. I press the button... Wow! The infernal roar of a jet engine revs up; the reverb shakes the whole car; the beast has awakened. What a thrill! An onlooker peers over my shoulder. What a delight! My hands are on the steering wheel, ready to tame the beast. It’s time for the test drive to begin. The Lamborghini Huracán EVO accelerates at top speed. I’m pushed back into my seat by the power and pressure of its forward motion – what a wild feeling!
Umberto Pallaoro, head of sales at Lamborghini Zürich/Hirsch AG and expert in all of the new models in the showroom there, had already whipped my enthusiasm for a multi-day drive into a fever pitch thanks to his wealth of knowledge about the vehicle: The Lamborghini Huracán EVO features a 5.2 l V10 naturally aspirated engine with optimised power output and high torque for linear acceleration which kicks into an even higher gear at higher speeds. In short: It can go from 0 to 100 in 2.9 seconds, and from 0 to 200 in 9 seconds! And its top speed is 325 km per hour! That’s something I definitely want to try out for myself! Here’s another detail: The new Lamborghini rear-wheel steering with a torque vectoring system for all four wheels allows this 'meteor' of a car to twist around curves and remain stable on straighter stretches of road. That’s something I’m dying to play around with! The new built-in vehicle dynamics system, Lamborghini Dinamica Veicolo Integrata (LDVI), provides predictive controlling of the dynamics and anticipates the driver’s next move. That’s something I simply have to experience! And now I don’t have to wait a minute longer. While the STRADA mode is still more or less the same as what I’m used to, this gem of a car from Automobili Lamborghini shows what it’s truly capable of in the SPORT mode. Concentrating fully on the task at hand, I experience each and every thrilling moment behind the wheel of this racer. But why don’t the streets of Zurich offer anywhere to try out the CORSA mode?
The Lamborghini Huracán EVO, the ultimate sports car, will leave a strong impression: You know that everyone on the street has seen you. And heard you. And stayed where they were standing, stunned, as you drive off. This feisty Italian stallion has certainly caused an uproar and is a polarising creation: Reactions are either two thumbs up or a mystified shake of the head. To drive it is an indescribable thrill. So here’s my appreciative summary: The Huracán EVO is a genuine sports vehicle – a powerful car with an engine that shows off the classic Lamborghini DNA: a tough, agile, compact, aggressive design. The lines of the car are all designed to ensure the optimal aerodynamics. The visual appearance of the vehicle, from the low-lying bumper and front splitter with integrated wings, is confident and cool. That goes for the main touch-screen for steering and connectivity as well. It’s the perfect combination of state-of-the-art technology and emotion. I 'casually' disembark from this 'missile' – a hurricane – of a car, and immediately feel as if I had just stepped out of an hour-long workout. My positive feelings are written all over my face thanks to an elated grin I can’t get rid of when I return to Umberto Pallaoro after the drive. It was an unforgettable experience. Even though I’m already getting excited for the next big thrill.
