BVLGARI – LE GEMME. Bulgari dedicates its first haute parfumerie collection of six fragrances to women and their limitless facets. We are swept up on a seductive journey – along the secret path of gemstones.
'In the art of perfumery, the artist refines a scent he finds in nature. He harvests the scent, and sets it, like a jeweller setting a precious stone.' The words of the French author Joris-Karl Huysman seem to have been the inspiration for master parfumier and designer of the Le Gemme collection Daniela Andrier when she created her range for Bulgari. Calaluna, Maravilla, Lilaia, Amarena, Noorah, Ashlemah: Calaluna, Maravilla, Lilaia, Amarena, Noorah, Ashlemah: these six fragrances embody six extremely rare gemstones – moonstone, citrine, peridot, tourmaline, turquoise and amethyst.
'To compose these fragrances, I concentrated on the colours of the stones, on the magical way that light passes through them. However, perfume is mainly a poetic relationship with oneself. It awakens the inner world, which is very personal and 'composed' of a range of individual feelings, that are different for each person,' explains Daniela Andrier. She has 'merely' played with the different elements of her extremely luxurious ingredients to create a hymn to the colour, light and feelings which come from gemstones, and which has a modern feel. The bouquet of these Eaux de Parfum varies from the freshness and sensuality of a Mediterranean garden to the silky warmth of the mists of the orient. It takes us on an imaginary olfactory journey with notes of lavender, iris, cardamom, sandalwood... Bulgaris’ garden spans the world, filled with the landscapes of exclusive fragrances that have come together in these six perfumes to give us a unique new fragrance experience. They carry us away into a world of mandarin, peach, almond and pomegranate trees and bewitch us with hints of rose and violet. We are enchanted by encounters with little-known exotic blossoms such as the Indian ambrette or Mexican tuberose. Essential oil of galbanum and the sweet scent of mastic foliage unite with aromatic peppermint and bitter orange.
With Le Gemme, Bulgari, a Roman parfumier with Greek roots and the world’s third largest producer of jewellery, is going back to its Mediterranean origins on the borders of the orient. Its new perfumes awaken the deep and mysterious yearning of a long journey, bringing to life the magic of the nomads. With imagination and perfect craftsmanship, Bulgari manages to combine its lasting passion for gemstones and the traditional values of jewellery with the skill of the parfumier to create a unique work of art. The surprising new Le Gemme collection lets every woman emphasise her own personal features.
The Swiss Atelier Oï has created veritable works of art to hold the Bulgari fragrances. The shape of these precious vessels is reminiscent of the delicate phials the Greeks used for their salves and perfumes or the Roman amphora which brought precious goods from all over the world to the capital of their ancient empire. The flowing curves give this flacon elegance; its stopper is reminiscent of one of Bulgari’s oval cabochon-cut stones set in a gold ring. And, of course, it carries the jeweller’s engraving. The colours – milky white, luminous golden yellow, fresh green, electric pink, clear turquoise and a mysterious purple – represent the gemstones the perfumes are named after. In contrast, the main body is in a matt black, which intensifies the effect of each stone set against its mysterious darkness.
