In the midst of this AI-supported scene there is a design icon that is thoroughly real and has been present in sophisticated bathrooms for 20 years: the MEM fitting from Dornbracht. On its anniversary, it deserves not only appreciation, but also an exceptional presentation that illustrates how perfectly it assimilates into futuristic bathroom landscapes.
20 YEARS OF DORNBRACHT MEM SERIES
The highest design and quality standards have always been part of Dornbracht’s DNA. The MEM series developed by Sieger Design in 2003 is no exception. To this day, MEM is a byword for an elemental aesthetic of clarity, minimalism and balance. Values that are particularly appreciated in the biosphere of the bathroom. For its anniversary, this iconic series will be extended to include new surfaces, structures and variations: a single-lever basin mixer, a three-hole basin mixer and a single-point single-lever basin mixer are added to the wall-mounted fittings; and the floor-standing fitting is now available with a single-handle spout or a three-hole basin mixer with a flat spout. The highlight among the innovations: a free-standing single-lever bath mixer. The new variations may not come as a complete surprise for a design classic with over 20 years of success. But what is absolutely unexpected and ground-breaking: the anniversary was the perfect occasion for Dornbracht to present MEM in a completely new architectural setting: integrated into futuristic visual worlds, created with artificial intelligence by Meiré und Meiré, Cologne. Dornbracht takes us into the land of AI: Initially, after the first input, into an expansive, rugged and rocky primeval landscape with clear architecture and a blue horizon. The bathroom and MEM were added in further processes, adjustments were made, evaluated and finally a spectacular result was achieved: The bathroom of the future is revealed in an archaic environment – as an artificial yet artistic vision in which the MEM fittings shine as accentuating design pieces.

Die Verbindung aus zukunftsweisender architektonischer Illusion und langlebigem Produkt-Design ist deshalb so spannend, weil sie neue Horizonte entdecken lässt. Die Impressionen − ganz gleich, ob am Tag oder bei Nacht − überschreiten die Grenzen des Vorstellbaren, Bad wird als Thema raumübergreifend und losgelöst gedacht. /imagine ist eine Zeitreise, erhebt nicht den Anspruch einer realen Umsetzung und fasziniert doch mit Momenten purer Inspiration: Angefangen bei der Farbpalette der Architektur, welche sich fossilen Achatstein mit seinen spannenden rötlich-beigen Schattierungen zum Vorbild nimmt. Weiter mit dem überdimensionalen Waschtisch, welcher den natürlichen Wasserlauf überspannt. Bis hin zu der zwischen runder Boden- und Deckenplatte gespannten Duschwand, welche sich flexibel ausrichten lässt – gerne auch mit freiem Blick in die grenzenlose ursprüngliche Freiheit draussen. Man spürt förmlich ein Beseeltwerden mit diesen besonderen Eindrücken und die Lust auf neue Ideen. Wie selbstverständlich fügt sich MEM in diese neue Architektur. Vielleicht weil das organische, minimalistische Design an eine Quelle erinnert, die ursprünglichste Form des Wassers. Vielleicht weil sich die Varianten der Armaturen an Waschtisch, Wanne und Dusche unterschiedlich und doch aus einem Guss präsentieren. Oder weil sie mit subtiler Eleganz den finalen Akzent im Raum setzen. KI hat uns gezeigt: Auch nach zwei Jahrzehnten besticht MEM als Kultarmatur mit wegweisendem Design. Stimmig in der Proportion, präzise in der Machart, grandios in der Performance und mit dezenter und zugleich präsenter Persönlichkeit.
